MARIANA MONTALVO
CHILEAN & LATIN AMERICAN POPULAR SONGS
Chilean by birth and Parisian by adoption, Mariana Montalvo is a festive intimist with intoxicating depth and one in the line of great South American singers like Mercedes Sosa, Maria Bethania, Violette Parra, Susana Baca and others, with whom she has recorded a compilation called "Latinas", released in the US in 2001 (Editions Putumayo). Accompanied by her excellent quartet, her voice is pure and unpretentious, describing her development as an exile through a mosaic of songs : Latin American pop songs, interpretations of texts of South American women poets or those of her friend the Chilean filmmaker Jodorowxki. She also sings revivals of successful songs by Serge Gainsbourg or Maxime Leforestier. Her Spanish versions of "Couleur Café" or "Né quelque part" by Forestier are particularly charming. For her following, Mariana Montalva’s natural talents and appeal are the high points of bliss! |
